INDUSTRY ALERT:
New Firmware Causes Aftermarket Chip Malfunction
Lexmark™ T640/642/644
IBM™ IP™ 1532/1552/1572
Dell™ 5210/5310
UniNet is discouraging owners of Lexmark™ T640/642/644, IBM™ IP™ 1532 / 1552 / 1572, and Dell™ 5210 / 5310 printers to download and install ‘upgrades’ or ‘enhancements’ from OEM manufacturers’ site on these products since the firmware download will cause aftermarket chips to malfunction.
The firmware level LS.ST.E211, once downloaded, revises the way the printer communicates with the cartridge chip. All aftermarket replacement chips tested in UniNet labs for these series will fail with this firmware level. The failure is immediate.
This firmware level can be seen on the Status Page, under Device Information, on the ‘Engine’ line.
UniNet Imaging/Summit Technologies has focused resources on tackling this issue and will present a solution very shortly.
